Finding the right flow for your home is the difference between easy living and a cluttered atmosphere – and this goes for your kitchen too. We have designed so many kitchens over the last decade and we’re obsessed with finding the perfect layout to ensure hardest-working room in the house run efficiently.

Our kitchen layouts all begin with one ground rule – every kitchen should have these clearly-defined work zones:

  1. Work zone
  2. Prep zone
  3. Clean-up zone
  4. Tall utility zone

We’ve illustrated the four zones in the plan below, and you can see that together they create a highly efficient kitchen.

Other recommendations for a streamlined flow:

  • Locate your fridge in a position where family members can come and grab a drink / snack without infringing on the work area of the kitchen.
  • In your clean-up area, we like to position the sink in between the dishwasher and the pullout bin. This locates all the cleaning areas in one place.
  • An appliance cupboard will keep your kitchen clutter free! This area will ideally have pocket doors where the kids can make toast, you can cut bread etc and you can simply close the doors on the mess to instantly help the kitchen feel ordered.

If you nail your kitchen design from the very beginning, the space will work hard for you rather than the other way round. Kitchens are the heart of the home creating the most work, entertaining guests and nourishing your family – they need to run smoothly!
