The correct kitchen storage is crucial in creating a functional and elegant space. Here are two approaches that can bring a luxurious feel to your kitchen storage.
1. Our number one tip: don’t install over the bench cupboards.
This probably goes against most kitchens you’ve had yourself or seen in friend’s and family’s homes, but trust us, these cupboards are more trouble that they’re worth. They make the kitchen feel smaller and they can block natural light, plus most people can’t even reach the top shelf! Not to mention the dust gathering on top of these cupboards.
Instead, if you design a well laid out kitchen with lots of drawers and decanted pantry items, you’ll find you don’t need those annoying upper cupboards. Use the space to create a spacious and beautiful splashback, much more aesthetically pleasing!

Exceptions – there are always exceptions to the rule and if you find you really need upper wall storage in the kitchen, integrate it with the range hood for a more seamless design and consider open shelving on one side for more airy, generous storage.

2. Create a tall area of utility in the most suitable space.
These cupboards are full height storage that house your wall mounted ovens, appliance cupboard, pantry and integrated fridge. This storage gives a neat, seamless feel and handily groups together the appliances and food storage areas.
While you’re at it, build in a hidden appliance cupboard to this area. An area hidden by a sliding pocket door for your toaster, kettle etc – you can have it open while using, and close the door on any mess and toast crumbs when you need the kitchen to look tidy!
