Recently featured in VOGUE Living, this project saw our team renovate, reconfigure and reimagine a heritage house which was built into the side of a cliff. We collaborated with the owner, an artist, to replan the whole house with a commitment to natural materials of the surrounding landscape and light interiors that encourage connection and flow.
These are just three of the design principles we followed for this project:
2. Create a clear and cohesive entry point
Locating your entry to its best potential is critical to a successful floor plan. The entry needs to set the scene for the whole experience of the home. It needs to take into account access from the street and create links not only physically but visually to all other zones in the home. It’s also really important to consider light, space and storage at this point of arrival.
3. Creating a direct access to outdoor from living spaces on each level
Another design fundamental is to consider the connection between each living space and their adjacent outdoor space. If it works with the property, we recommend giving each living area close proximity to outdoor green spaces. Obviously each design will have its own site conditions with the best solutions – and don’t forget there are other ways to add green space to certain properties, for example with an internal courtyard.
