Our team flexed their layout superpowers to solve these three kitchen design mistakes recently.
MISTAKE 1: Incorrect kitchen orientation
The orientation of this Sydney kitchen meant it faced the living area, there was too much space between the front and the back of the kitchen and it was a U-shape (not an ideal kitchen shape as it becomes cramped and difficult to entertain in).
THE SOLUTION:
We reorientated the kitchen to take advantage of the length of the space. This has vastly improved the kitchen area, and the layout of the whole apartment!
MISTAKE 2: Do they need the servery?
This client in New South Wales had introduced a ‘servery’ between the kitchen and the outside space. But this created a corner in the kitchen and shortened the length of the kitchen island.
THE SOLUTION:
We removed the servery and added fully glazed doors to give access between the kitchen and the outside area. The kitchen is now a pleasing shape with maximum space and no awkward corners.
MISTAKE 3: Circulation that makes no sense
This client based in Nevada used our Layout Review Service to receive our recommendations on improving their floor plan. Can you believe the circulation (i.e. hallways and corridors linking the rooms in the home) took up 25% of their space!
THE SOLUTION:
We drastically improved the flow and efficiency of this home by reducing the circulation space to 15% of the total house area.
